Taiwan-based PChome Online has started B2C online shopping service in the US market, targetting ethnic Chinese customers, according to company chairman Jan Hung-tze.
Although the US online shopping market is mature, there is special market demand which has not been satisfied, Asia-featuring products for example, and consequently becomes a market niche for the B2C service, Jan pointed out. A large portion of orders placed at the B2C platform are for Chinese-language books, Chinese-interface PCs and 3C products which are very expensive in the US market, Jan said.
The B2C platform is specifically for online retail stores by Asians in the US and manufacturers or businesses in the Asian region, Jan added. The platform has an advantage over local B2C competitors, that is, only US$10 will be charged for delivery of a merchandise item of below 5kg in weight from Taiwan to locations in the US, Jan said.
To facilitate operation of the B2C business, PChome plans to set up logistics centers in the US in 2-3 years, Jan indicated.
